Take the Lead!

can be serious and add a mellow mood to a ceremony or campfire. We have placed links to several of our
favorite songs on this page that were kindly recorded by one of our leaders (please turn up your volume as
the quality is poor). Due to copyright concerns we cannot print the actual words, but most can easily be
found by doing a simple search on the internet.
Take the Lead - This is the Frontier Girls theme song that every Frontier Girls should learn. Contact Frontier
Girls Headquarters for a copy of the words.
Ah-La-La-La-La - Great action song to get girls moving at the beginning of a meeting. Act out whatever the
verse says to do such as "shake another hand" or "pat another back."
America - This song was written and performed by two of our Butterfly level Frontier Girls and their brother,
otherwise known as the "Hometuned Trio." It is a beautiful song that would be appropriate for the Flag
Ceremony portion of any of your ceremonies. (copyright 2007 Hometuned Trio)
Back of the Bread - A simple grace to be sung before snacks or meals.
Barges - A quiet song that is nice to sing around a campfire.
Black Socks - This is a silly song designed to sing as a round. When you get to the part saying "not yet, not
yet..." one group keeps chanting "not yet" while they other group begins the verse again. If you are in a
place where you can make a lot of noise, this is a great song to see "shout" and see which group can be the
loudest.
Buddies & Pals - Fun song about friendship
Donut Song - Always a favorite. This song is a silly action song. Act out the lines - "ran around the corner"
by running in a circle to the right; "ran around the block" by running in a circle to the left; "ran right into a
donut shop" all run to the center of the circle; pretend to pick up a donut and wipe off the grease and hand
someone some money; "she looked at the nickel" pretend to hold a nickel and look at it; "she looked at me"
look at someone with an angry expression; "and she said kind sir.." wave your finger in someone's face;
"there's a hole in the nickel" make a circle with your thumb and forefinger; "goes right through" put your finger
in the hole you made; "there's a hole in the donut too" shrug your shoulders; "so long" salute goodbye.
Down By the Banks - Another favorite. This song is more of a game. All girls sit in a circle cross with their left
hand on their left knee and their right hand on top of their neighbor's left hand. Assign who is supposed to
start the game and then begin singing. When you begin, the "starter" takes her right hand and lightly slaps
the girls hand who is on the left. Then that girl does the same and so on so that the "slap" goes all the way
around the circle. Keep going until the song ends. On the last "plop" whoever's hand is slapped is "out" and
has to sit in the "mush pot" or center of the circle. This is a great song to mix up your girls in needed as the
"mush pot" person must take the seat of the next girl who is "out." To make it even more fun, start 2 slaps at
opposite ends of the circle. Once you master that, try 3 or 4 depending on the size of your troop.
God Has Created a New Day - Great song to sing at a camp out to start your morning.
Have You All Seen the Eagle - Beautiful song to be sung as a round around the campfire.

Make a Joyful Noise - Good up beat song. Clap your hands.
Moon on the Meadow - Pretty song to sing around a campfire.
My Aunt Came Back - Silly call and repeat action song. There are several versions of this song. For
complete instructions do an internet search for "My Aunt Came Back"
Neath These Tall Green Trees - Beautiful grace for outdoor activities.
On the Loose - Nice song for camp outs or ceremonies.
One Bottle of Pop - Silly round
Peanut Butter & Jelly - Silly action song. Pretend to squish peanuts between you hands, spread jelly on
bread, and eat it. During the chorus, raise your hands in the air to the left and shake during "peanut butter"
and then put them down and to the left for "jelly."
I'm a Little Pile of Tin - This fast action song is always a favorite. "I'm a little pile of tin" point to yourself;
"nobody knows what shape I'm in" shake your finger like you're saying no; "i've got 4 wheels" hold up 4
fingers; "and a running board" using a flat hand, move your hand from right to left like you are running it
across a board; "I'm a 4 door I'm a Ford" hold up 4 fingers when you say "4" and "Ford". "Honk, Honk" push
your right hand forward like you are honking a horn; "rattle rattle" put your hands in fists, crouch your knees
and move your arms like you are running; "crash" keeping your hands in fists, cross your arms over your
chest, "beep beep" using the palm of your right hand press on your nose like it was a horn. Now speed the
song up a little more each time you sing it and see how fast you can go!
Prunie - Silly song
We're a Rainbow Made of Children - Great song for a ceremony or meeting. Can be sung as a round.

hold the word "head" for as long as they can before continuing the song.
