Otter: (Do 4 requirements including the 2 starred)

________1.* Know what constitutes a colony of bees and how they live.  

________2.* Know how to keep from being stung by a bee and what to do for a bee sting.  Know what gear is
necessary in beekeeping.

________3. Know how nectar is gathered, stored and how the honeycomb is built.

________4. Draw a diagram of a bee and label each of it’s parts        

________5. Find at least one recipe that uses honey and make it.

________6. Be able to explain why bees are an important part of our environment.  What do you think would
happen to many of the foods we eat if there were no bees?



Dolphin: (Do 5 requirements including the 2 starred)

________1.* Know what constitutes a colony of bees and how it lives.   Know how to keep from being stung by a
bee and what to do for a bee sting.  Know what gear is necessary in beekeeping.

________2.* Read a book or pamphlet on the bee, and tell your troop about it.  Know how nectar is gathered,
stored and how the honeycomb is built.

________3. Know what part the queen, drones, and workers play in the life of the colony.

________4. Find at least 3 recipes that use honey and make one to share with your troop.

________5.   Know the diseases of bees and some of the things that destroy colonies.

________6.  .  Taste at least 3 different types of  honey made from the nectar of 3 different flowers.  Which did you
like the best and why?

Butterfly (Do 6 requirements including the 2 starred)

________1.* Know what constitutes a colony of bees and how it lives.   Know how to keep from being stung by a
bee and what to do for a bee sting.  Know what gear is necessary in beekeeping.   Read a book or pamphlet on
beekeeping, and tell your troop about it.  Know how nectar is gathered, stored and how the honeycomb is built.

________2.* Know the diseases of bees and some of the things that destroy colonies.

________3. Be able to recognize and describe each of the following, queen, drone, worker, egg, larva, pupa,         
honey, wax, pollen,  brood nest, comb, queen cells, and bee glue.

________4.  Know the value of having bees wherever plants are grown for food or for pleasure.

________5.  Know which flowers afford the best food for bees, and how honey varies in color and flavor according
to the flowers.  

________6.  Taste at least 3 different types of  honey made from the nectar of 3 different flowers.  Which did you
like the best and why?

________7.  Find at least 3 recipes that use honey instead of sugar and make one to share with your troop.

________8.  Create a booklet to teach basic beekeeping to younger girls.




Eagle (Do 7 requirements including the 2 starred)

________1.*  Know how to keep from being stung by a bee and what to do for a bee sting.
Know the diseases of bees and some of the things that destroy colonies.  Know what kind of gear is necessary.  
Know how nectar is gathered, stored and how the honeycomb is built.

________2.*  Assist in hiving a swarm, examining a colony, removing the comb, finding the queens, putting
foundations in sections, filling and removing supers, and preparing honey in comb and strained for market.  Be able  
to identify different parts of a hive.

________3.  Know how to fix the hives for the winter months.

________4.  Know which flowers afford the best food for bees, and how honey varies in color and flavor according
to the flowers.  

________5.  Know effect, if any, of insect sprays on bees.

________6.  Know at least three recipes in which honey may be used in place of sugar and make one to share with
your troop.

________7.  Know something about the habits of wild bees and how you go about finding a colony of them.

________8.  Be able to recognize and describe each of the following, queen, drone, worker, egg, larva, pupa,
honey, wax, pollen,  brood nest, comb, queen cells, and bee glue.

________9.  Know how to introduce a new queen into a hive
