Otter:  Do 4 requirements including the 2 starred

1.*  Learn to identify 3 different flowers that grow well in your area.  Plant one from seed, and one from a seedling
and care for them for them until they are large enough to use in bouquets and arrangements.  Learn what type of
soil your flowers should be planted in,  how much water and sunlight they should receive and how they should be
trimmed.

2.*   Recognize 3 common weeds and know the proper way to weed a garden.  

3.  Learn to identify 3 flowers by scent.

4.  Enter a flower you grew into your local fair or other flower competition.

5.  Learn the proper way to cut flowers and prepare them for bouquets and arrangements.

6.  Cut some flowers and make a bouquet  to give as a gift to someone.   Help keep it fresh by  wrapping the stems
in wet paper towels and then in tin foil to keep it from leaking.  Tie a pretty bow around them and you have a
beautiful fresh bouquet.

7.  Sketch, paint or photograph a flower and show it to your troop.


Dolphin:  Do 5 requirements including the 2 starred

1.*  Learn to identify 6 different flowers that grow well in your area.  Plant 3 from seed, and 3 from  seedlings and
care for them for them until they are large enough to use in bouquets and arrangements.  Learn what type of soil
your flowers should be planted in, how much water and sunlight they should receive and how they should be
trimmed.  Recognize 3 common weeds and know the proper way to weed a garden.

2.*  List 3 garden pests, insects or diseases, and find 2 organic solutions for dealing with each.

3.  Learn to identify 6 flowers by scent.

4.  Learn the proper way to cut flowers and prepare them for bouquets and arrangements.  Cut some flowers and

using graph paper.  Arrange flowers according height and color to design a pleasing area.  Make sure you map out
how much space each flower will need.  Learn what type of soil your flowers should be planted in, how much water
and sunlight they should receive and how they should be trimmed.  When you are ready, plant your garden and
care for it until the flowers are ready to be used in floral arrangements.    Recognize 3 common weeds and know the
proper way to weed a garden.  List 3 garden pests, insects or diseases, and find 2 organic solutions for dealing with
each.

    Garden shovel, spade, hoe, weeding hoe, cultivator, pruning shear, hedge shear, lopping shear,

3.    Learn to identify 10 flowers by scent.

4.  Visit your garden after dark for at least a week noting what insects are abroad and which flowers are closed and
which are open.

5.  Create a small garden for a nursing home, school, or church.

6.  Find at least 3 careers that involve the use of flowers.  What education would you need for this career?  What is
the average pay and work schedule?  If possible, shadow a person with one of these careers for a day.

7.  Demonstrate your knowledge of at least 3 bulb flowers, 3 tree flowers, 3 wild flowers, and 3 garden flowers.

8.   Visit your county extension agent’s office, a local university’s agricultural or horticultural department, or a
botanical garden or arboretum.  Make a poster of what you learned.

9.  Sketch, paint or photograph at least 6 different flowers and create a display to show to your troop.

10.   Know what the terms annual, perennial and biennial mean and be able to identify at least 3 flowers from each
group.

11.  Learn 6 flowers that are edible such as pansies and zucchini flowers.  Find a recipe using one of these and
prepare it to share with your troop.



Eagle:  Do 7 requirements including the 2 starred.

1.*   Learn to identify 15 flowers that grow well in your area.  Plan out a flower garden of at least 6 different flowers
using graph paper.  Arrange flowers according height and color to design a pleasing area.  Make sure you map out
how much space each flower will need.  Learn what type of soil your flowers should be planted in, how much water
and sunlight they should receive and how they should be trimmed.  When you are ready, plant your garden and
care for it until the flowers are ready to be used in floral arrangements.    Recognize 6 common weeds and know the
proper way to weed a garden.  List 6 garden pests, insects or diseases, and find 2 organic solutions for dealing with
each.

8.  Demonstrate your knowledge of at least 6 bulb flowers, 6 tree flowers, 6 wild flowers, and 6 garden flowers.

9.  Identify at least 6 local flowers that are poisonous to people or animals.

10.  Sketch, paint or photograph at least 10 different flowers and create a display to show to your troop.

11.  Know what the terms annual, perennial and biennial mean and be able to identify at least 6 flowers from each
group.

12.  Learn the proper way to cut  and trim flowers to prepare them for use in floral arrangements.  Make a floral
